Backing Up CIP's Database

CIP Reporting 'How to' Guide

This guide will show you how to Backup CIP Reporting's Database.

You must have access to the server with administrative privileges.

1.- Before starting please notify the staff that CIP Services will be down for some time (how long depends on the size of the database and hardware specs).

2.- If the system is a virtual machine then a simple snapshot should suffice, however if the system is physical then follow the steps below:

3.- Open the CIP Shell and type 'service stop' or go into Services and stop CIP Services.

4.- Verify that all CIP processes have died in Task Manager.

5.- Open File Explorer and go to the CIP Drive (Usually called ‘Data' or 'CIP’) -> CIP Reporting -> Data.

6.- Copy the 'db' folder.

7.- Back up into the CIP Reporting directory and go into the Configs folder.

8.- Create a folder called 'db-current-date' and copy the 'db' folder into the newly created folder.

This image shows that the backup was made in the Configs folder as it makes it easy for the CIP Support Team to find it, however there is no requirement to do so, the copy can be made on any directory.
